Making abstract art allows me to explore the creative process without limitations. I begin to form my images by building texture with gesso and paper collage, followed by several layers of acrylic color applied with my hands, brushes and palette knife. My work is an intuitive process that follows the energy of the shapes and pattern that appear on the canvas. Expanding upon an idea, I like to create a series of several paintings. Sometimes a concept needs to be explored in different ways. I may reach an end point in a piece of work, yet the idea may not be completely played out, so I continue onto the next canvas. Other times connected ideas arise and spill over onto the next canvas, creating a series of works within a theme. Art is always a reflection of my life's experiences expressed on canvas through the connections of movement, color, shape and texture.
